About Cova

Cova is an app for small, low-key in-person gatherings - a hike on Saturday, a board game night, a photo walk. Someone creates a plan, a handful of people nearby take spots, and everyone shows up as equals. There's no group to join and nothing to belong to afterwards unless you want there to be.

It launched on the iOS App Store in July 2026 and currently holds a 5.0 on the App Store. San Francisco is the city where coves are already happening; elsewhere you can join the waitlist or start the first one yourself.

Why it exists

The observation behind Cova is that adult friendship has a coordination problem rather than a supply problem. Most people want to see other people more than they do. The missing piece is the inviting: everyone waits to be invited and almost nobody does the inviting, so plans die in group chats that never resolve into a time and a place. The alternative is usually a standing group that's been running for years, which is hard to walk into as the new person.

Everything about the app follows from trying to make that one step cheaper. Coves are capped at small sizes, because above about ten people a group gets a core and a periphery. They're one-off, because a standing commitment is a much bigger ask than a Saturday. And there's a ring system that makes everyone's show-up record visible, because small plans simply don't survive people flaking.

The longer version of that argument, without the app in it, is in how to make friends in San Francisco.

Who makes it

I'm Rohan! I built Cova on my own, run this site, and I'm based in San Francisco - which is why the writing here is specific to this city rather than a template with the city name swapped in. The app's artwork, including Capa the bear, was made by my sister. And truly, so much of this app has been formed and created by feedback from dedicated users. You can find me on LinkedIn, and check out the launch post!

If you want the design thinking behind it, I wrote about that in Cova's design.

The company

Cova is made by Cova Labs, LLC, a small independent company. It isn't venture-backed and there's no growth team - which is relevant mainly because it means the comparisons on this site are written by me, and I'd rather they be accurate than flattering. When a competitor is the better choice for you, the comparison pages say so.

Corrections and contact

If something on this site is wrong - a price, a venue that's closed, a competitor's feature I've described unfairly - tell me and I'll fix it: support@trycova.app. The same address works for support, press, and anything else (even questions, feedback, or feature suggestions!).
